Mr. Escobar graduated from Harlandale High School in 1998, where he participated as a member of The Million Dollar Band, served as Drum Major for the 1997-1998 school year, and graduated in the top 10% of his senior class. He attended Morrill Elementary and Harlandale Middle School.

He holds a Bachelors in Music Education from Texas State University-San Marcos.


Mr. Escobar’s teaching career began during his tenure as a university student as a private Euphonium instructor for Connally High School, Cedar Park High School and its feeder middle schools, and Seguin High School and its feeder middle schools. In July 2006, he was hired as the 3rdassistant at Del Rio High School, where he taught marching fundamentals with the Mighty Ram Band, and directed the Sub-Non-Varsity band, the Jazz Ensemble, and percussion. In July 2008, Mr. Escobar was hired as the assistant Band Director at Harlandale High School,where he assisted with the marching band, directed the Non-Varsity Concert Band and the Jazz Ensemble.

On Monday, June 17th, 2013, the HISD School Board approved Mr. Raul Escobar as the new Harlandale High School Head Band Director. Mr. Escobar has served as the Assistant Band director for 5 years.

While at Texas State, Mr. Escobar served as principal Euphonium of the Texas State University Wind Ensemble under the direction of Mr. John Stansberry from 1999-2004, as well as 2nd and 3rd Trombone from 2002-2004 in the Texas State University Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Mr. Freddie Mendoza, and was Lead Trombonist with Salsa Del Rio from 2003-2004 under the direction of Mr. John Lopez. He was a featured soloist as one of the Concerto Competition winners in April 2002 with the Texas State University Symphony Orchestra and with the Wind Ensemble in April 2003.

Currently, Mr. Escobar is Director of Bands at his Harlandale High School, where he is incharge of the Marching Band, directs the Varsity Symphonic Band, and Jazz Ensemble. The band has had many students selected for the All-Region Band and All-Region Jazz Band placing in top chairs as well as several being named to the 4A All-State Band.Mr. Escobar’s primary instrument is the Euphonium, but also plays Trombone and Bass Trombone in the San Antonio area. He has performed with Tejano Legend Rubén Ramos, as well as recorded two Albums with Nightlife from Del Rio, Texas. More recent recordings include various background tracks for Fiesta Texas and trombone on Muñequita from Jay Perez’ 2011 album “The Voice of Authority.” Mr. Escobar can be seen most often performing trombone or bass trombone with the Jazz Orchestra of San Antonio, Primetime Jazz Orchestra, Henry Brun’s Modern Latino Big Band, and the Loud Big Band. He currently resides in south San Antonio with his wife Serenity and baby Ziva Rae Escobar (Born 7lbs 13oz on July 22, 2012 at 5:43PM), and their Jack Russell Terrier Rupert.
